“Working parents today feel pressure from both home and work. With the right tools and training, some of this pressure can be alleviated, while still producing effective results. I’m excited to equip managers and working parents with the necessary leadership tools to build successful lives and careers.”

Maria, a retired U.S. Navy Commander, brings 20 years of leadership experience to the Villyge Team. As Director of Leadership Success, Maria works with managers in high demand industries to develop strategies for growing an inclusive culture and successfully transitioning parents to and from parental leave. She also provides guidance on evolving best practices and federal and state legal requirements regarding parental leave and lactation support. Maria also conducts manager sensitivity trainings and develops written guidance to help working parents ease the transitions of a growing family, and the potential impact on work life.

Prior to joining Villyge, Maria served in the U.S. Navy as a Human Resources Officer, reaching the rank of a Senior Officer during her 14 year career. Maria served around the world including Afghanistan, Southeast Asia, Europe, South America and the Arabian Gulf. She provided leadership and mentorship throughout her career to military personnel ranging from apprentice to senior officer/program director. Additionally, Maria delivered expert training and guidance of Navy-wide personnel programs to prospective Commanders of Pacific Fleet ships.

While Maria thoroughly enjoyed each job during her Naval career, the highlight of her career was her 27-month tour as the Commanding Officer (Director) of a shore command with a daily average of 800 Sailors.

Maria earned her Masters of Science in Management from the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, CA and her Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina. She holds a Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification and is currently pursuing a Masters in Clinical Mental Health Counseling through Liberty University. Maria lives in Virginia with her husband and their son.
